An argument for Abstinence
Do you feel that abstinence is actually a cruel way of restricting you pleasure for no reason? What about STDs and even AIDS?
Use a condom...?
Would you still fly on a plane when the pilot announces that there is a 10% chance that the plane will crash and you will die? Or will you still walk on a bridge that you know drops every hundredth traveller to their death? Don’t think so!
Do you know that condoms have a leakage rate of 0.9% to 22.8% - especially if you do not use them correctly? According to HHS' National Institutes of Health there is insufficient evidence to provide an accurate assessment of the effectiveness of condoms in preventing spread of chlamydial infection, syphilis, chancroid, trichomoniasis, genital herpes and genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. For HPV, the panel found there was no evidence that condom use reduced the risk of HPV infection. Also note that most STDs increase the likelihood of transmitting HIV infection at least 2 to 5-fold.
Why take the risk? Remember that many STDs, including AIDS, don’t show symptoms for years. You cannot just assume that that you are safe! There in no such thing as ‘safe sex’!
So, don't fall for these old come-ons:
- "Everyone elso does it."
(Then go out with someone else)
- "I want to give you something to remember me by"
(Like herpes, HIV, a baby....?)
- "It will bring us closer"
(Like it does people in Hollywood?)
- "If you don't, I'll find someone who will."
(I hope the two of you have a nice life.)
- "Show me that you love me..."
(And risk getting HIV...)
See facts on STDs.
